Hi this is Alexander from Anubex.
Today, let’s take a deeper look into what Anubex calls Integration Topics that come up in a migration project.
The conversions and transformations we do during migration projects we execute are typically fully automated. There are however a number of services and components that support a mainframe application, who have two characteristics in common:
1) they differ significantly from customer and customer,
2) their replacement cannot often not be automated, or semi-automated at best.
The replacement of these services and components we call the “Integration Topics”.
So, Integration Topics are the collection of points where the migrated application integrates with other components of the customer IT infrastructure landscape and that are affected by the migration project to a small or larger degree. Suppose you move from a z/OS mainframe to a X86 platform, then examples of topics that fall into these categories are:
· The Job Scheduler, that manages the complete batch processing. These are products such as Automic, TWS or Control-M
· Creation of documents to be printed by the migrated application.
· The configuration of Access and Security of the application
· Interfaces with other applications, using mechanisms such as FTP and MQ.
Due to the nature of these topics they are specific to the customer environment, the general approach on how to handle these however is always similar. This design and implementation of the Integration Topics are a collaboration between Anubex migration specialists and various specialists
from the customer, and sometimes also from an Integrator. This very much depends on the technology chosen and the skills available.
It might have become clear that identifying the scope of the “Integration Topics” BEFORE the actual project starts, is extremely important. If you would like to learn more on in-depth migration solutions, you can visit our website or leave a short reply and we’ll get back to you!
